“Noise”

January, 2023

This is one of the most challenging pieces that I’ve done as it is the largest canvas I’ve painted on. The composition of this piece, as is with much of my art, occurs in my mind over a period of time. This particular idea took several months before I even had the canvas. Each element represents an angle of society as my eyes perceive it. I like to pay homage to that which has inspired me — anime, The Matrix, Japanese calligraphy — so I’ve introduced some of this throughout.

I decided to create separation of my silhouette from the rest of the piece and wrapped this in gold. Gold represents purity, which is what can create this separation. The red tear drop is an ode to the journey, being something that asks of us a great deal of resilience and courage.

A special mention to the audio track I created to go with the timelapse video of this piece, which adds an additional sensory layer to all that I am attempting to depict and convey.
