“Taiyo”

August, 2021

This piece was inspired by the story of Sir Gawain from Arthurian legend and folklore. There is a tale where Sir Gawain is contending with a great deal of upheaval and overwhelm having the responsibility of ascending the throne, family complications, and being seduced by deceptive, demonic figures. Sir Gawain held an even, stoic demeanour through all the turmoil and approached everything in a calm, resolute manner. This reminded me of the sun — it’s power literally maintains all of life on Earth and shows up day after day, no matter what. Taiyo is ‘sun’ in Japanese.
